Cinco De Mayo!!

Yes, that's the date but it's also a holiday of sorts....another multi-faceted holiday with different meanings for different people.

In Mexico - mainly Puebla it commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the Mexican state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico, and especially in U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population. It is not, as many people think, Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually September 16.

Here in the United States however it has over recent years become more of a commercialized "celebration" of Mexican food, drink & culture. It is reported that Cinco de Mayo is celebrated on a much larger scale here in the United States than it is in Mexico!! People of Mexican descent in the United States celebrate this significant day by having parades, mariachi music, folklorico dancing and other types of festive activities.

I personally like to make the trek to Mishawaka Indiana to visit my favorite Mexican restaurant - Don Pablos!! They serve up delicious food with a GREAT atmosphere!!

In Addition to Cinco De Mayo

I also want to send out a

Happy Labor Day

to Queensland & Australia!!

(also celebrated today)

  1. I always celebrate Cinco de Mayo! I am 1/2 Mexican and it's just a fun night for great food, drinks and favorite people... We are going out to our favorite Mexican restaurant tonight (there is only one!).....
