Altered Pencil Case II

Monday I shared how I altered the pencils included in a paper mache' pencils set I rec'd last year in a mystery box from USArtQuest.

Well today I wanted to share what I did with the pencil case.  I liked how the stamped tissue looked on the pencil so I tried the same with the case.

I decided on Steampunk theme due to all the fun metallic's so I stamped gears all over the tissue using StazOn ink.

I then used original Creative Medium to adhere the tissue to each half of the pencil case.  I was very careful not to get any adhesive on the exposed area of the case that the lid slips over.  It's a tight fit to begin with so I didn't want to make it so the lid wouldn't go on.  I set each half aside to dry.

Once the entire case was dry I used Sponge Daubers and the Delicata Quad (bronze, copper, gold & silver)  to ink up the entire case top and bottom.

While the ink on the case was drying I die-cut lots of little gears.  Aren't those tiny ones just darling?  I love gear dies...they happen to be Memory Box gears.

And I inked all of those up using the same inks.

Now that the case is dry I added the gears here and there over both the top and bottom of the pencil case using Antique Creative Medium (as you can see it's my fav - you can see the bottom of the jar - eeek!  Time to get some more!!).  This medium has a wonderful vintage look once dry and unifies the entire piece.

And here's how it turned out.....

And all of the pencils tucked inside!

Time for the give-away!  To enter for your chance to win either the finished Steampunk pencil case or the second ready to alter pencil case simply leave a comment about what you're currently working on.  You have until 4-20-15 to post your comment to be entered to win!  I'll choose 2 lucky winners.

I'm currently infatuated with Color Burst powders and have been playing with them on and off since I got them.  I like to experiment and see what all I can do with them.  As a matter of fact I think I'm going to share one or two of those experiments with you tomorrow!

  1. What a terrific project! I love all the metallic elements. I am currently working on mini journals. Just playing around to see what I can do with a few different styles. It's a fun way to use up paper stash.

  2. The pencil box looks perfect! I'm in the middle of making 18 magnets for Administrative Professionals Day on the 22nd for my sister (she's the school nurse for the district), coordinating cards and evelopes. Lots of die cutting and thank heavens for the Xyron!!!

  3. Absolutely a perfect case. I also love gears. I'm working on ATC trade as I make no 2 alike. Plus jounaling.

  4. Wow! I love what you did to the plain pencil case. The color and texture are fabulous. Currently I'm working on an altered envie for an April trade, a mixed media postcard (destination unknown), and some moo cards using up scraps as I attempt a major cleaning of my art space. My cleaning keeps getting interrupted when I "find" things that inspire me to create something. lol

  5. Wooowww is al I can say!

  6. HI Roni. love this pencil case, so goooooood!! I love Steampunk styles,, have lots of cutting dies of gears, just love them, plus I am lucky with 4 grandsons and my sisters grand-daughter also loves steampunk, which gives me plenty of chances to use my gears etc., I am currently working on a tunnel card, I recently found a tutorial on how to make these and they are truly fascinating, just finished a set of cards, a little mini album, and an exploding handbag that I am entering into the Hawkesbury Valley Agriculture Show, and have to make cards for two of my grandsons Tom and Jack. Thanks for the opportunity to win these lovely items!!!!!!

  7. Very cool make Roni!! HappyThursday!

  8. AWESOME! I am currently working on cards for a couple of swaps at a convention I'm going to in June.

  9. LOVE your pencil case. I need to find something around here like that so I can alter one.

Let's see, I'm working on roughly 4 swaps, 4 design team projects, and trying to get a ton of unmounted stamps mounted. I even took off work so I could get some of this done.

  10. This turned out wonderful--the pencils are too beautiful to sharpen, LOL!

I'm always working on beaded flowers, but I have an altered book with a tea quote theme on-going also!

    Happy Spring!

  11. I love having little boxes to put things in and this is a great idea for one of those containers. Beautiful project, Roni, thanks for sharing it!

  12. I love how this turned out! Thanks for sharing your how-to.

  13. This is just stunning! I can see that I'm going to have to get into the Creative Medium. Thanks so much for sharing!

  14. It's wonderful and lovely how it all came together and all the mediums & techniques are so fun. Love the metallic look!

I am art journaling (trying to catch up on weekly prompts) and a friend has started me on beading (not that I already have a room full of papercraft supplies and need another medium). I also have some birthday cards to make.

  15. I have been using ink sprays and stencils since I took a class back in October....just can't stop using them. started a journal with all these pages. may take me a couple of years to finish this journal but it's fun.
