Altered Playing Card Challenge - Week 8

Today I have week 8's cards for the Altered Playing Card Challenge - Claudia's theme was hearts for both - gelatos on the first and watercolor drippy paint on the second so I followed suit.

Of course I'm using Non-Playing Cards just to be different...I started out using a bingo card for the first....  covered  it with gesso then hand drew a heart off to the side.

I scribbled on my gelatos...

then blended using my waterbrush...

and here's what it looks like at this point.

I used a bit of oil pastels both along the edge of the heart and inside the heart which can be blended with your finger tip.   Originally I added black to the edge and a darker red oil pastel to one half of the heart.  Well, as I was blending I accidentally got some of the black in the heart but happily that tiny bit of black actually added more depth and dimension than the red alone.

And here is my finished card with some hand drawn/written lettering.  You can see where the black is on the right side of the heart...

The next card was made by dripping watercolors down the card.  I added gesso hearts on the top & bottom then hand wrote the sentiment.

If I had to do it over I would have used stamps, stickers or computer generated sentiment.  I don't like the writing but I like the rest of it too much to throw it away.

Week 8...

  1. I love the writing on both, the first one looks graffiti-ish and the second is so lovely. Your writing is great, love them both!
