Well you know me...can't throw away anything!
I'm sure most of you are familiar with unmounted rubber stamp dies...you know just the red rubber images without foam, wood or mounting material of any type.
When you cut the actual stamps out you're left over with a whole pile of waste rubber...
Way back in December of 2007 I shared a way to create mosaic stamps from this scrap material. I always meant to go back and share a few more examples of what you can do with this abundant commodity that usually is tossed and forgotten. I am FINALLY getting around to it again.
Today instead of individual mosaic tile stamps I thought we could work with a 2" long 1/4" wide rectangle.
To use I simply ran a line of dry adhesive on one of my acrylic blocks and positioned the new "stamp" on the adhesive.
And stamp away...
Here are just a few examples on what you can do with this seemingly boring rectangle bar....
What ya think?
Pretty fun huh?
Who knew you could take garbage and make it into something cool!
Now I could be evil and just give away the scraps but I thought it would be nice if I gave away the set of swirly stamps so you could have the benefit of both the stamps AND the scraps!
So, if you'd like to win this set of stamps to play with all you have to do is post a comment to be entered to win! You have until 2-3-10 to post.
Good Luck Everyone!!
What a great idea....I have to try this a.s.a.p.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Hugs
Trine
well of course I will comment! never thought to use this sort of scrap, but would if I had some...which I currently do not...where is that stamp from...it is very pretty, just like your samples today...ty Cher
ReplyDeleteThat's such a great idea! I don't have any of this rubber as all mine are acrylic, or already mounted. I'm curious where the stamp set is from too...
ReplyDeleteI have some left over stamp material from some See-D's stamps that I was saving. I was thinking I would punch out some shapes and stamp but I LOVE what you did with just a little strip!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I save all of my leftover rubber that's big enough to do anything with, but I haven't made too many new stamps. I've made some primitive stars ("primitive" because I can't cut very straight, LOL!), a brick backgrounder, and a polka dot backgrounder. I love what you've done with the rectangle - will have to try it. Thanks for a chance to win the swirly stamps!
ReplyDeleteCool:D I use my rubber scraps that already have the foam adhesive on them as pop-ups:)
ReplyDeleteI have kept so much left over rubber stamp trims and then thrown them away! Thank you for the inspiration. Let alone the gorgeous swirls stamp
ReplyDeletewho knew! I save mine (from stampin' Up!)to use the foam as pop dots. They have thier own adhesive!

ReplyDeleteI'm like you, Roni. I couldn't bear to just throw away the rubber scraps. I haven't used much of them, but I knew that 'someday' I would wish I had not thrown them away. Thanks for the ideas.

I have always hated throwing away those scraps. Thanks for the great idea. The only other thing I have done with them is;
ReplyDeleteI have a stamp that rocks and then the edges show on my image. I put a small square of scrap in each corner of the wood block and now it stays even when I stamp.
PS - I like the flourishes on this stamp.
what a great way to recycle and love the designs on the cards - thanks for the inspiration and a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I would love to win!

A very creative way to play with shapes. Good idea!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. I almost threw some scraps away today.
ReplyDeleteWhy oh why did I throw the scraps away when I got my rubber stamp sheets!!! Cool idea, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI have been following you for quite awhile. I love me some swirly stamps! Great ideas.
ReplyDeleteDo you use the end of wine corks for itty bitty small mounts? Another tip for ya. OR you can also stamp with the end of the wine cork for dots...just saying and sharing...
~I am also a self confirmed stamp-a-holic
I just discovered your blog today and I LOVE it! So much information and experimentation. I will be following your blog with great anticipation from now on.
ReplyDeleteI was just browsing on your Blog because there is so much information available, it's impossible to read it all in one sitting - lol. (Thanks for all the great tutorials). I found your use for the left over rubber we cut away from unmounted stamps. Wow! I've thrown away so many pieces of rubber. Won't do that anymore! I have a stamp set I have yet to cut out. Now I'm looking forward to a job I'm not usually happy about doing.
ReplyDeleteHi, I did a similar project making dozens of different stamps (animals, shoes/skates, christmas stockings, mittens, fruit, a tea service...) from scrap rubber, the possibilities are endless. Here are links to the instructions and the finished images.
