Something new for me..Greyscale Coloring...

#adultcoloring #coloredpencils #inkstainedroni #fairy #autumn

I like the adult coloring books but this is the first time I've tried a "greyscale" coloring book. It's not what you think of when you think of a coloring book... it has some of the shading done for you in grey scale. You then color the image but let me tell you it's not as easy as it sounds. Yes, the basic shading is done for you but just coloring won't get you a good look. You have to rethink how you color. I still use several colors for each area but work it a bit differently than you would if you're straight up shading. The grey changes the colors you're using... it's fun and challenging. I really enjoyed this.

The coloring book is Enchanted Magical Forests by Selina Fenech. I bought several from her because I like the realistic looking style of them. I also have mermaids and another I can't remember right now. They are pretty fun and I can't wait to color more.

I used Arteza colored pencils with baby oil to blend and finish it off.

  1. It is really pretty. What did it look like before you colored it?

    1. If you look at the 2nd photo you can see what various areas look like before I colored them. There is grey shading here and there. It's really a bit daunting when you look at it but once you get going and learn how the colors look over the shading it's pretty fun.

  2. Sounds like a great therapeutic/relaxing way to practice coloring and shading!

  3. I actually had not seen a coloring book like this yet! I really like how the design is larger on this page. Most of the books are insanely details and that is not the kind of coloring I find relaxing!

    1. Oh I know...I have lots of the coloring books with either the micro details or the ones that are all chopped up into little sections (don't know what they are called), almost like zentangles. I haven't colored many of them because it's just not me. These are more realistic which is what I gravitate towards. The artwork in them is amazing! And yes, these to me are very relaxing.

  4. You did a beautiful job on this page. Looks wonderful and like you mastered the pre-shaded coloring.
