Ranger Tech. Calendar - September - Adirondack Dimensional Pearls

This week we are going to finish up working on our 2011 Technique Calendar.  Today's product is a lovely product not too many people are familiar with...Adirondack Dimensional Pearls.  Very similar to Liquid Pearls but available in the beautiful shades of the Adirondack Earth Tone line.    We're going to be taking advantage of the intense color and shimmer these paints offer up by pairing it with Glossy Multi Medium to create one of my favorite techniques from my book...Paste Paper.

Adirondack Dimensional Pearls

Paste Paper 

Supplies:

Adirondack Dimensional Pearls - Ranger
Multi-Medium (gloss) - Ranger
Small container (to mix in)
Cardstock
Comb, Popsicle stick, etc. (to draw in the glue mixture)

NOTE:  Since this is a Ranger technique calendar I am using their products for the glue/paint components of this technique.   I did want to let you know that if you don't have these products you can substitute any acrylic paint an/or clear drying white glue. 

Instructions:

1. Place one or two teaspoons of Multi Medium into each container (one for each color you will be using).

2. Add a few drops of Dimensional Pearls to each container.  Stir to mix.  If you would like a more intense color add a drop or two at a time until you reach the desired shade.

For this example I am using Cranberry, Terra Cotta and Butterscotch.

3. Apply the mixtures to your paper and spread it around until there is a nice even layer over the cardstock.  (As you can see I like to use my finger for this step.)  You want the layer of glue/paint to be thick enough that when you drag your finger through it there is a defined line.  Too thin and it will dry before you have a chance to create your designs.

4. Now it's time for the fun part!  It's time to create your design in the paste (glue/paint) mixture.  To do so you can use a vast array of items to help with this step.  I am using a comb used for decorative paint techniques but you could use a regular hair comb, popsicle sticks, netting, spoons, knives (serrated knives make awesome designs), forks, pencils, decorative edge rulers, etc.  There is just no end to the fun stuff you can find around your house to manipulate this paste.

I had some extra paste mixed up so I decided to use it up and make one for later use.  This one I just played around with my pop cycle stick and created a variety of free style designs.

After you have created your design, set the paper aside to dry completely. 

Now I wanted to share this side view of the finished paste paper so you could see the awesome dimension and texture created by the combination of the paint and glue.  By using the Dimensional Pearls you also get the added benefit of the beautiful shimmer.
