Candy Foil Die-Cuts

I don't know about you but in our family one of the neat little treats that we save for the holidays are the little foil wrapped treats.  You know what I mean...the little solid chocolates that are shaped like balls, coins, footballs, bells, wafers, etc.   WELL, I decided to save a few of the foil wrappers and make something fun with it!  I'm using some candy foil from some Dove chocolates.

1. Tear the foil wrappers into small pieces.

2. Spread a bit of the glue over a small section of the chipboard.

3. Begin layering pieces of the torn foil wrapper over the glue smeared area.

4. Continue to add additional glue and foil pieces until the chipboard has been completely covered.

5. (NOTE: This step can be done before or after die-cutting.)  To ensure that all of the pieces of foil stay put once you begin die-cutting you will need to take one final step.  Apply a layer of Glossy Accents or Rock Candy to the entire piece of chipboard.  I used Rock Candy because I liked the fine cracks it adds to the die-cut.

Your candy foil chipboard is now ready to be die-cut!

Here is a little bird I created from the example I made....

If you'll notice I saved the dark pink strips for a seperate piece of chipboard which I then cut the bird wing from.  It's fun to use certain colors for an area to highlight various sections of the die-cuts.

Give it a try and see what you can come up with!
It will add a fun and interesting effect to your creations :)

  1. Oh what a brilliant idea - you are amazing. I don't have the die - but I am sure I have a bird somewhere that I could use!

  2. LOVE it!!! I just got the Sizzix Big Shot for Christmas and can't wait to try this out. GREAT idea!!!

  3. What a wonderful idea! I am so going to be doing this!

  4. What an awesome idea Roni! I always save these bits of foil but never thought to layer them on chipboard and then cut them out. That bird is wonderful!!

  5. So cute! I have been saving the foil liner from coffee cans and hot chocolate to die cut, but now, I'm going to have to save (and eat!) candy wrappers, too! Thanks for the great idea!

  6. This turned out so nice...I guess I'll have to use aluminum foil since I don't keep chocolate wrapped in foil around me! LOL

    Happy New Year,
    Stephanie ♥

  7. Cute!! I've actually done that with Hershey kisses years ago. Well, not shapes, just some squares/rectangles from 4th of July themed kisses. I still haven't used them though. LOL They've got to be over 5 years old at least. I really like how your bird came out.

  8. I love how you come up with the most creative things, using ordinary things. Thank you for sharing. I love the bird!!

  9. totally cool. I just love making something beautiful out of "trash".

  10. It is nice idea that you have posted this kind of crafts. I really want to create these for my decor collection. I have some recycled materials to be use when making this because I loved recycling.

Thanks for your thoughts and comments!
