Faux Stamped Silk Technique
Supplies:
Tag
Tissue Paper
Glue Stick (easiest to use for this technique but you could use other adhesives)
Stamps
Ink
Embellishments to finish off calendar page
Instructions:
1. Trim your tissue paper a bit larger than you want the finished piece to be...I usually add an inch on each side but you could leave more or less.
2. Stamp the desired images onto your tissue paper. I am using Club Scrap stamps from the Wisteria set (which I LOVE!) - instead of a single color I'm coloring each stamp with my Distress Markers; huffing warm breath onto them then stamping.
And here is what it looks like once I've finished....
3. Gently crumble the tissue paper being careful not to tear it. Gently open it up and smooth it out a bit.
4. Apply glue to the entire tag - as mentioned above, glue sticks work best for this as you can achieve a more complete coverage without it being too wet. You can of course use what you have on hand.
5. Place the tissue paper over the glue and smooth it down so the entire piece has been adhered to the tag. You will have small wrinkles here and there which is totally fine. Just adds to the faux silk look.
6. Flip the tag over and glue the excess down to the back of the tag. And you're done!
Here's what my tag looks like at this point...
See why I didn't want to cover it.
I did however add the calendar page ...
I simply love this technique...the translucent quality of the tissue paper really adds to the whole effect. Usually people glue the tissue down to white paper but I like it on darker paper....It gives a bit of contrast you don't get on the white cardstock.
Half way done already ~
can you believe it?
I've got my first six months done and clipped onto a baker's twine rope above my desk. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! Each tag has at least one ribbon, one brad, and some gemstones. Some have stickers or extra bows in coordinating colors. What a great way to use up some of my embellishments while learning some new background techniques! Thanks for all the work you've put into this. I look forward to this project every year. Anne, yourmainestamper
ReplyDeleteOh I love, love, love this technique! So much in fact I'm going to try it as soon as I finish this post. Your tag is so lovely, I totally understand why you didn't want to cover it.
ReplyDeleteLovely result, and it's especially pretty with the flower stamp you chose.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely see why you wouldn't want to cover the gorgeous wisteria. This tag is beautiful. I'm so going to try this technique.
