This month the Club Scrap Artist Team Challenge was to make a project of our choosing using one of the following - Homemade Holiday or I'll be Gnome for Christmas (shown at the bottom). I couldn't decide which set to use so I made something using each set.
The first project was made using Homemade Holiday - it's a little recipe book I made for my youngest son and his fiance. She likes to bake so I thought it would be fun for them to try a variety of cookie recipes and decide which were their favorites.
The album it's self was made using a Twinchie Album Kit with 2 sets of 4x4" page protectors. The paper was from the Homemade Holiday paper kit from 2014.
The first page of the album is where I put a little note on the back to them and I chose to hand write the title because I'm hoping this will be come something they keep and pass along to their kids. I know I would love to have pieces of my grandparents handwriting to cherish so maybe...
I stamped each piece of cardstock with a variety of stamps from the collection... they can write the ingredients on one side and baking instructions on the other or however they like.
I just thought it would be a fun tradition for them to start off their life together.
And of course you all know how much I love my Gnome friends so I had to make a card using Mrs. Gnome.... She was colored with Chameleon Pens.
And here's a gander at the stamp sets we were challenged to use.....
and
I already had both of these sets in my stamp collection so I am lucky enough to be able to offer up a set of each stamps to a couple Ink Stained readers!! Simply leave a comment telling me about one special holiday tradition in your family.... It could be baking special cookies, a story about ornaments, special get-togethers, a sing-along, etc. Whatever you and your family do to celebrate this lovely time of the year.
You have until 11-28 to post a comment to be entered to win.
At that time I will draw 2 lucky winners name from a hat
(o.k....really random.org will draw the winners).
Good Luck Friends!!!
When the holidays start, I bring out the box with all the ornaments my children have made during their school years and the special ornaments and stockings my daughter and 2 grandsons created for me. As I put out each ornament, I remember; the marshmallow ornament my daughter made in the 3rd grade; the Christmas picture when my son was in 1st grade; the stockings my daughter put my and my husband's names on in glitter; the special ornament my youngest grandson bought at a school Christmas shop in kindergarten
ReplyDeleteRoni, this album is such a special and heart warming gift that will be treasured for years to come. As I read your detailed instructions, I found myself singing, "memories, pressed between the pages of my mind". Once again Roni, you found a way to create a gift that will be cherished and earn a place of prominence in your son and soon to be daughter-in-law's home.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be the new owner of one of these lovely stamp sets!
ReplyDeleteI live in the Netherlands and in certain parts of the country bakers still bake a special loaf with Christmas, Easter or Whit Sunday called Duivekater.
I'm 62 now, but I remember going by bus for an hour to his hometown with my grandfather when I was in kindergarten to buy such a Loaf, for they didn't bake that in Amsterdam.
All those years I kept that tradition, although we now have to drive 50 kilometers vice versa to find a bakery that still bakes the Duivekater.
It is a sweet white bread to be eaten in thin slices with just a spread of butter.
That it's a really old tradition is proven by a painting of Jan Steen, where you can see the special formed loaf.
Wonderful use of the products Roni!! Love your Gnome cards and the book is such a wonderful idea. I also have both sets so please do not include me in the drawing. :) Good Luck everyone!!
ReplyDeleteThat's something I wanna make! Nice post. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous gift for your daughter in law! Baking is a huge tradition in our house as well, and from the time my children were very small we would bake cookies and decorate mini gingerbread houses. even though my children are still mostly grown up they still love to come and decorate them with their friends. :-) Every year I can't wait to start my Christmas baking.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Beautiful, heartfelt book.
ReplyDeleteLove your recipe book! Great idea
ReplyDeleteWhen my grandmother was still making cookies, she made so many and such a great verity too. We would always help. Now that she is gone, my mom and I split all the cookie making in half . Then we add some that we like of our own and I add one that my husband loved from his side of the family and then we swap. A few times I have had to ship them to my mom but they make it ok. The last 3 years I have mailed cookies to my son plus he has to have my fudge per his request. Lol. Last year he didn't even share any. Lol. Now that he is married we will include his wife and share our family recipes .
I love the recipe book you made for your son and future daughter-in-law. What a thoughtful gift. For the Christmas holiday, my grandmother loved to bake cookies for our family. She would begin baking in October and freeze the cookies as she went. By Christmas she had baked hundreds of dozens of cookies in many different varieties and flavors. The whole family would get together to celebrate the holiday and there would be trays full of cookies and her famous crumb cake for us to enjoy. And at the end of the evening each and every one of us received our very own shoe box filled to the brim with homemade cookies! Now that my lovely grandmother is no longer with us, we try to keep the tradition alive by baking my her favorite cookie recipes for our Christmas gathering. I am privileged to have been chosen to carry on the tradition of baking her delicious crumb cake. It just wouldn't be Christmas without it. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the little book you made! Great stamp sets! Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteA favorite tradition in my family is unwrapping one gift on Christmas Eve--and it's always the holiday pajamas! Christmas Day is often Pajama Day when it's just the immediate family.
What a special gift idea for your son and daughter-in-law, I'm sure they'll love it! Love the card, too.
ReplyDeleteThis would make a wonderful gift. Would love to win and make this! Good job!

Great idea for the twinchie book kit, Roni! I still have one from the 2014 Retreat to put together....hmmm...now the wheels are turning.... (no need to enter me in the drawing, btw - I have those wonderful stamps mysefl!) Thx for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of a book. Every year my husband and I turn our kitchen into a cookie factory baking as many different kinds of cookies as we can in a week using many favorite recipes and always trying to add a new one. Then my husband is the cookie elf who delivers them to family and friends for the holidays. Would love to make books for all the nieces and nephews with the recipes for next year. Great job on yours! Patti
ReplyDeleteLove the book and the card!
ReplyDeleteLove the gift album and cards, Roni! (No need to put my name in the drawing because I, too, happen to have all of the stamps in my collection!) It is very SWEET of you to give them away!
ReplyDeleteamazing talent! you have a hit again. I'm sure your D-I-L will love it!
ReplyDeleteEvery year, the decorating all takes place the day/weekend after Christmas. now that the kids are a little older (8 and 5) they are able to help decorate the tree.
another tradition is to make goddie plates (Christmas cookies and candies) to give out to neighbors and friends. this is also the time when I begin to write my family letter.
thanks for the offer to win something! I've enjoyed reading everyone's traditions!! :)
What a special gift. Love the idea. It will be cherished urge recipient
ReplyDeleteAwesome gift! I was lucky to get my mom's cookie cookbook that she got all of her Christmas cookie recipes from. A tradition in our family was our Advent Calendar. Every day we did something. One day it was make cookies together. Another day it was shop at the store to fill up a grocery bag of food for the local food bank. Another day we would make a new ornament for the tree. Each day they would pull the paper out of the calendar to see what the activity was for the day. My kids are mostly grown up but the ornament every year is still a tradition. Only I'm the one making them all. But I love seeing my kids who have children continue some of the same traditions.
ReplyDeleteI love the book. I hope it does get passed down in your family. I just love to hear stories about items getting passed down. Your card is too cute! One family tradition is wrapping presents on Christmas eve while baking and watching Miracle on 34th Street and Scrooge. I have them on the DVR just in case they don't come on Christmas Eve.
ReplyDeleteThese are the cutest stamps... what a wonderful giveaway!!!! What a wonderful idea to create a book for your daughter-in-law to be!!!! The stamps are perfect for the book! Thanks for sharing! What great stamps to add to a collection... MINE!
ReplyDeleteI love the 'cookbook' and card! I'm one of those rare people whose mom AND dad were BOTH only children. So when we had Holiday's like Christmas, we all got together. So our Christmas gatherings were huge...9 people! And they were wonderful. Us three girls didn't know other families had sometimes 20 or more people, or that they would eat 2 Christmas meals (or more) in one day. We were loved and spoiled. I think we'd all love it if our kids could have that kind of Christmas again. Merry Christmas to all of you...gerricarterflute@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWhat a great gift! Love it!
