American Crafts buys Bazzill Basics...

I read this article recently that American Crafts bought Bazzill Basics.  I do hope that AC doesn't try to change a good thing.

Well, I originally came on to tell you about the above article and American Crafts buying Bazzill.  I was going to also mention the other cardstock I love to use which is Couture Cardstock....but when I tried to go to their site it wasn't there any longer!  They had really nice cardstock comparable to Bazzill quality but at a fraction of the price.  I usually place two very large orders a year so I hadn't visited there recently.  I am in shock and saddened because I never heard a word about it on any forum or individual ~ and I still can't find anything about it.

Gosh I don't know what I'm going to do...  Don't get me wrong, I have a huge supply of cardstock but now I am wondering if I need to hoard what I have. I hate paying huge prices for cardstock when I know it's marked up so much it's ridiculous.   I'm not opposed to someone making a profit but when it's all about the $'s it honks me off...  It could be marketed for kids or general use at a reasonable cost but label it scrapbooking, rubber stamping, mixed media, collage, etc. and the price goes from reasonable to outrageous.    CC was one of the last really reasonable cardstock supplies around.

So, looks like I'm on a quest for cardstock now...
What cardstock do you use?
Is it comparable to Bazzill (or Couture Cardstock)?

  1. Hi I saw this announcement. It appears American Crafts are very busy buying up lots of other brands. Last year they grabbed a few including Imaginisce. I am sure we in Europe will be a lot slower to notice any differences so do keep an eye on it for us Roni. Did a search for couture cardstock to see if we had it here and got this http://www.scrapbookupdate.com/2010/07/05/couture-cardstock-ceases-wholesale-distribution-operations/ Don't know if that's useful/interesting for you. Hugs

  3. I feel your pain when it comes to spending money for cs and then when it's being charged more for when the word "scrapbook" is in front of it. I love the ways when I first started out stamping 30 yrs ago, we stampers created our own background with stamps and inks and other ways. I still use my "Shaving Cream teachnique" every now and then to create a fun background. I would check out http://www.marcopaper.com They have some good sales on their cs and I always try and stock up when I seem them at the convention... AdventuresInStamping. They have good quality cs and papers and envies for a great price. :)

  4. Roni, Red Rubber Designs has some Bazzill cardstock left at really, really good prices. It's on sale until it's gone, and it's going pretty fast. Won't help you in the long term, but might keep you in card stock for a year or two. :-)

  5. I will admit that until a couple of years, I had no idea what the difference cardstock makes. Enter Bazzill! And I haven't regretted it one bit. I have tried Carta Bella cardstock, which is very nice, but Bazzill has a place in my heart. I hope the quality does not go downhill, like some of AC products...Good luck!

  6. I also loved Couture Cardstock---very sad day when they closed. I got an email from them last September--ish and everything in their online store was 50% off. At the time, they didn't mention anything about going out of business but I had a feeling they were moving in that direction because the 50% off sale was "until further notice". It was some time in early December that I went to the site again to make another purchase and the Couture Cardstock name was for sale and the online store was closed. Honestly, I wanted to sit down right in the middle of the floor and cry. I loved their paper---still have some of the Detail Blending Paper. As crazy as it sounds, I don't even want to use it because I don't want it to be gone.

  7. I'm not sure what it means, but when I looked it up in Google it had listing as couturecardstock.com. I went into the site & it seemed to be a working site. I wonder.

  8. I use Xerox digital color elite silk 110 lb. cover, This is a lightly coated, fabulous quality cardstock extremely well priced.. I just love it. It's readily available at Staples, Amazon, etc. I also use a heavy weight non coated Xerox cover, but I don't have the label at the moment with the exact weight. I buy them in packages of 250. I also have a wonderful kraft cardstock from Papers and More.

  10. Couture Cardstock Ceases Wholesale & Distribution Operations [Updated]

by Nancy Nally on July 5, 2010 in News
Couture Cardstock announced today via its blog that it is ceasing wholesale and distribution operations after its parent company, Cardstock Warehouse, was acquired by an unnamed company. (Updated to reflect corrected information received from Cardstock Warehouse.) Although Cardstock Warehouse may continue to use the Couture Cardstock name for retail operations, the unit brand name as it had been operating has ceased to exist. This includes, unfortunately, the termination of all of the personnel, including company president CarrieAnne DeLoach:

Cardstock Warehouse Paper Company, Inc, the parent company of Couture Cardstock, has this week concluded an acquisition agreement with a distributor. The resulting sale of Cardstock Warehouse Paper Company, Inc” assets has caused a major reorganization of Cardstock Warehouse Paper Company, Inc. This reorganization has lead to the immediate end of Couture Cardstock’s existence as a wholesale or distribution entity. This unfortunately also makes the staff of Couture Cardstock, including its President, customer service agents, designers and design team coordinators no longer necessary.
