Anyway, I wanted to share with you a very cool technique that I had never heard of until I started visiting a craft forum in the UK....it's called 3-D Decoupage (they just call it decoupage). Not knowing what they were talking about I was amazed that decoupage was so popular over there and asked if someone could post some examples. Well, that was when I realized that it wasn't the flat collaged, and sealed projects we call decoupage. Made a bit more sense ;)
3-D Decoupage consists of many many layers of the same image being built up with foam pieces in between. Now, this might not sound like much but they hand cut each and every single piece out and layer them all by hand!!! I tell you, my scissor skills are not nearly ready for something like that...I get tired cutting out one small circle ~ I can't imagine having to cut each piece to assemble an individual card!! There may be 10-40 or even more pieces!!!!
A wonderful lady offered to send me a card using this technique and I was delighted :) THANKS TAMMI!!!! I rec'd them a couple days ago and just had to share them with you. I tried to get various angles to show you the depth of the images. It really is amazing when you see it in person!
Here you go....
Simply amazing aren't they!! The ATC has 7 layers to it!!!
I just love this panda card, it's simply darling :)
Imagine cutting out all of those tiny bamboo leaves and then layering them back into one image again. I don't know that I'd be able to keep them all straight!!!
This is such a beautiful technique....one I don't think I'm quite ready to tackle but I applaude anyone who has the time patients and talent to do so.
They really are amazing!!!
Thanks again Tammi for your time and generosity for sending these to me :)
Have a great day folks....off to the vet's office for me!
I know exactly what you mean, Roni. Decoupage is actually my first love - that's how I got into all of the paper crafting and art I do. And, me being me, of course I read a 100 books on any subject that I am interested in and yup - every decoupage book you can find has a great big section on this particular technique. It's amazing, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful examples. What fun to have a pen pal from across the pond!

I was searching your blog and when I saw this 3D decoupage technique I was totally amazed. Will I try it? Hmm, don't think so. Don't have the patience or the cutting skills to do all those layers.
