Purse Card Holder Instructions

Hello Friends!  Yesterday was the Botanicals Club Scrap Blog Hop and I shared these darling little Purse shaped card holders.  Today I am going to share how I made them.  These purses are sized to accommodate A2 (4.25 x 5.5") cards.

Cut a piece of cardstock 6" x 12" and score at 5.5" and 6.5" - set it aside for now.

Flip the cardstock over and determine where you want your ribbon handles to be, mark with a pencil.  Cut several pieces of double stick tape and position where your pencil marks are.

Remove the backing tape and affix each end of the ribbon to the holder.  I cut my ribbon approx. 12-14" long.

Add desired pattern papers to cover the ribbon and decorate each side of the purse.  Repeat on the other end.

Cut (2) pieces of cardstock 4.5" x 7.5"; score the long side at .5", 1", 7" and 7.5".  Turn the cardstock and score at .5" and 1".  Trim off the two corners where the lines intersect as shown.

Crease and fold along each of the score lines.  Place a strong double stick tape over the folded lip on each of the three sides.

Remove the liner and carefully position the pocket on one side of the "purse"/card holder.  Repeat on the second side.

If desired cut a strip of coordinating cardstock .85" x 6" to cover the center strip between the 2 pockets....it's not necessary but it just looked like it needed something.

Pounce ink directly onto the wood veneer embellishments then spritz with water, gently massage and blend the inks with your finger tip and let it dry.  The colors will lighten a bit as they dry.

Add the dyed veneer pieces and any other embellishments desired.

Cut a 1" x 3" strip of cardstock; score at 1" and 2".  Affix one side to the back of the purse and add a Velcro dot closure to the other side.

Your purse is now ready to be filled with cards and envelopes!  You could comfortably fit 5-6 flat (no lumpy embellishments) cards into each side along with their envelopes.

Club Scrap Botanical Blog Hop

Welcome, welcome to the Club Scrap Botanicals Blog Hop!  This months kit - Botanicals - is filled with lovely pastel solids and prints not to mention the beautiful Botanical stamp images.

Earlier this month I made several cards for the Artist Team Challenge where we gathered inspiration from the Club Scrap Botanicals Mood Board.  Well I thought it would be perfect to make a little card holder to accompany them so that's what I did!

They look like little purses....

The wooden bird above and flowers below were dyed using Memento Inks and a bit of water.

that open up to reveal two pockets filled with cards!

I filled each side with three cards and envelops but I think you could fit 4 or 5 depending on how lumpy the cards were.

I'll be sharing the directions on how to make these tomorrow but if you'd like a shot to win one simply leave a post (with some way for me to contact you) and you just might be the winner of one of these little Botanicals Pocket Card Holder & Cards!

You have until 5-6-15 to post your comment to be entered to win :)

Your next stop on the hop is

Cafe' Vino StazOn Studio Glaze Card

I recently bought this fun Wine Sentiment from Unity Stamps and just had to make a card with it.  As I was looking through my stamps I found this Cafe Vin stamp from Just For Fun Rubber Stamps that paired perfectly with it.  To me the image has a stained glass look so I decided to roll with it.

I started off by stamping with VersaMark then embossing the image on white cardstock.

I pulled out my StazOn Studio Glaze and filled in each area of the image. This glaze gives you a great stained glass look even on cardstock!  By varying the amount of glaze you can create lots of depth to an image without adding dimension.  It's really amazing IRL - it's just so hard to capture that depth in a photo.

You can see in this close up photo that in some areas I blended more than one color of the glaze to add another dimension to the image.

I went on to stamp the sentiment and since it already had a natural curve I decided to accentuate that with a bit of inking and a die.  I temporarily taped it down to my cardstock and inked it with similar colors that were used on the main image...

Of course - accidents do happen....  So rather than pitch it and start over I used it as an opportunity to embellish...which I did!

I used my Sponge Daubers and a few pencil erasers to add dots of ink here and there - and cover up my screw up!  Worked like a charm.  And here you have it....

Creative Medium over Color Burst

O.k..So I've been on an experimenting kick and after I tried putting Color Burst over Embossing Paste/Creative Medium  the other day I decided to try it the other way around and put Creative Medium over a page I had put Color Burst on.  I have to tell you I LOVE how it turned out!!  I am definitely going to experiment with this a bit more.

I started off by sprinkling Blue and Violet Color Burst onto watercolor paper then spritzed with water.  After it was dry I applied Iridescent Blue Creative Medium over a Crafters Workshop stencil and let it dry.  As it dried the Creative Medium sucked up some of the Color Burst and just look at how it turned out...

Tilted so you can see the Creative Medium...

And a close up - you can barely see the creative medium here....

but a little tilt of the paper and BAM! Knock your socks off color!  Wicked cool huh?  You can see that the Creative Medium not only has the Iridescent Blue shimmer but it also has the Color Burst color coming in as a secondary color....

just THINK of the possibilities!!!

Club Scrap Artist Team Design Challenge - Botanicals

April's Artist Team Design Challenge for Club Scrap was to choose one or more photos from the 04.15 Botanicals Mood Board on Pinterest.  Let me tell you this was no easy task - take a look at the board and you'll understand what I mean.  There are SOOOOOO many cool pins that it's so very difficult to choose just one!

As I was trying to decide which card/technique I wanted to use for my inspiration it struck me how many cards had white embossed images as their focal points.  They were all beautiful and rather than trying to select a single card I decided that I would make a group of cards all with white embossing as my focal point(s) and here's what I came up with...

I started off by cutting pieces of cardstock from the kit, stamping various images with VersaMark ink and embossing with white embossing powder and went from there.  I used PanPastels or watercolor paints to enhance each of the panels, added more stamping to some and added them all to cards made using papers, ribbons and embellishments from the Botanicals kit.

Note: If you click on the word inspiration beneath each card it will take you to the pinterest card that inspired me for each design.

Inspiration - Watercolor paints were added to the background.  I love how the white embossing really stands out on the yellow cardstock panel.

Inspiration: The embossed oval was rubbed with a variety of PanPastels creating a lovely soft feel to the background.  This piece was added to a brown cardstock card blank that has been stamped with Wedding Dress white Memento Luxe ink.  This ink paired with the brown cardstock creates a chalky finish.

Inspiration: These images were stamped on a pink card panel then a watercolor wash was added here and there.  The ribbons, brads and metal embellishment were all part of the kit.

Inspiration: This purple panel comes from a Cutapart from the Embellishment Pack - the flower was stamped, embossed then I added a bit of PanPastels to create the halo of color.  I did add a few sequins and dots of Wedding Dress Pico Embellisher to finish it off.

Inspiration: This is such a simple card but one of my fav's.  The image was stamped & embossed on a bit of the white cardstock in the kit.  I took my Staedtler Circle Template and added 3 different sized circles with PanPastels.  The sentiment was then stamped with Spiced Chai StazOn ink.  So simple but a very striking finish.

Inspiration: And finally another favorite.  Each of these little blocks were journal boxes from the second cutapart sheet from the Embellishment Pack.  I stamped & embossed a different image(s) on each block then highlighted each block with a different color of PanPastels.  The background strip was created by stamping the leaves (used in the first block) with VersaMark ink which was then dusted with various PanPastels.

I had so much fun with this months challenge...
if you have time I invite you to take a look at the board
and have a go at making a card or two or more!

Embossing & Color Burst

I had a thought yesterday while I was making the calendar page...what would Color Burst look like over Modeling/Embossing Paste or Creative Medium?  Well today I thought I would give it a go and find out.

I decided to give both a try!  I spread IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko Blue Iridescent Creative Medium over one piece and DecoArt Modeling Paste over a fun Crafters Workshop stencil.

I sprinkled yellow and purple Color Burst powders over the modeling paste...

and started spritzing with water.

and let the Color Burst do it's thing.

Here's what it looked like once it had dried...don't you love the color variations?  So pretty!

Then I sprinkled Blue, Green and Red Color Burst over the Creative Medium, spritzed and let dry as well.

and here's what they looked like!  I noticed that the Creative Medium resists much of the CB and that it pools around the stenciled areas.  The modeling paste on the other hand soaks up the CB/water combo for a totally different look.

and here's what I did with them!

This card was made using this month's Club Scrap Botanicals kit.  I die cut the purple cardstock, stamped it then laid it over the Color Burst piece.  I then die cut the tiny little flowers and added them along the edge and down by the sentiment as well.  Each of those flowers received a drop of Shimmer Pico Embellisher (which I also added to the word "YOU") while the modeling paste flowers got a dot of Wedding Dress (white) Pico Embellisher for contrast.

These two cards go hand in hand because I used a portion of the Creative Medium/CB paper for both.  The card above was die-cut and added to the black background.  The word "hi" was die-cut and I used the positive for the card above and the negative for the card below.  I glued a strip of excess from the CM/CB paper behind the negative for a really easy second card. I added dots of Wedding Dress (white) Pico Embellisher to these flowers as well.

So there you go!
Color Burst paired with a couple of really fun mediums!
Lovely results I'd say.

Now it's your turn!!
