More Altered Charms

Hi Everyone...

The memorial service for my FIL was today.  It was what he wanted but it doesn't make things any easier.  The pastor talked more about her conversations with him rather than preach so it was really nice since he wasn't outwardly religious.

I made a few charms yesterday but didn't take any step by step photos...it was more therapy than instructional if you kwim.

Since I know many of us have a nice stash of goodies we bought but haven't used I thought it would be nice to dig through and find things not originally intended as charms to convert.  The first two charm bases are made from scrapbooking embellishments I've had for years.  Metal ribbon words/tag words...originally intended to be add to a photo or scrapbook layout....

I added a few misc. charms and goodies I had laying around from other projects and here is what I got....

In the next photo I have a charm made from a combination of a Tim Holtz Trinket Pin and a little frame embellished with a collage photo and Glossy Accents.

It also has a fun charm I created using a vintage garter belt clip.  Now how fun is that?

Hope you all had a nice day...

  1. Love the therapy. The upper photo reminds me of zipper pulls and gives me a few ideas:) The garter clip is wickedly wonderful! It's funny how sometimes in the darkest hours we can be so creative!

You sure pulled some creative muse out of a trying time. I love that garter clip, don't have any of them in my stash but I remember Mom and her nylons and those things. LOL

  7. I've heard the old adage about "Time Heals" and it does. But I'm happy for you that you have your craft to help you. When my son (age 30) passed away from cancer, it took me a long time to be able to do his Memory Album. But doing so made me feel a lot better. Cheers to our craft and it's ability to help us deal with life!!

  8. There's nothing like creating new artwork to help heal the soul. So glad to hear that the service for your FIL was personal and special, and helped make things easier for you and your family to get through.
Love the trinkets and especially that you used scrapbooking charms that you've had for awhile. I too have those bits and pieces and odd and ends tucked away in drawers. To be able to give new life to them would be fabulous!

  9. Sorry you've had a hard day. The pastor sounds like a very sensitive person, and that makes a big difference. It's great that you've been able to craft and find some comfort in creativity.
Your charms are fab, the garter is really quirky! It is lovely to see old bits and bobs used this way, Judith xx

  14. Hi Roni -

I really am so sorry for the loss your family has experienced. I know its not easy, praying for all of you.
I love your therapy charms. They are just so adorable. My absolute favorite is the garter charm. I am old enough to remember wearing nylons with garters - LOL! I love the way your mind works. I mean, who else would think of making a charm out of an old garter?!
