Some days you just gotta play....

and that's what I did today.  I have lots of things I "should" be doing but I just wasn't feelin' it so I decided to just play.  I went to Pinterest and just wandered around until I saw something that spoke to me.  I found this....Blue Flower

Blue flower painting using acrylics and gesso by CloverMoonDesigns, I painted this flower after seeing it on pinterest. I want to make more ...in every color!!

I loved it because of the blue so I thought I'd paint my own version of it with acrylic paints.  I dug all my paints out but then I started thinking it would be really wicked to experiment with different mediums.  So I put all my paint away and dug out a canvas I didn't much care for, black gesso and my Iridescent & Metallic Creative Medium.

I started off by painting over the ugly canvas I made for something else (totally not my style but you do what you gotta do).

I drew two loose guide lines to where I wanted to put the petals.  I then used a really heavy brush to paint the petals using Iridescent Creative Medium....I thought I grabbed blue but it turned out to be turquoise.

As it started drying I realized I wasn't going to get the dry brush look in the original. Again, trying to think outside of the box I decided to grab my embossing powders and "paint" with EP's! The Creative Medium was still wet so I just pinched a bit between my thumb and finger and sprinkled it where I wanted it.  It was much easier than you'd think.  I started off with a bit of black here and there...heated it. I was tickled that the CM started to bubble a bit here and there - it added some really cool texture. After I was done heating it was o.k....

so I got daring and added white to the tops of the petals, a bit of gold around the bottom of the petals and a little silver near the center of the flower.  I also sprinkled some white in the black negative space just because it's hard for me to have nothingness. I heated it again and really liked the results but...

I realized I wanted more depth so I added more black to the bottom of each petal, silver off to one side of each petal.  Lots of great color & texture but then the center of the flower was looking a bit neglected so I pulled out my Metallic Creative Medium and added Gold, Bronze and Copper... a few dots of Wedding White irRESISTible Pico Embellisher and it's done!

I wish you could see and feel all of the texture!  There is texture under the gesso from the original art I covered up, texture from the Creative Medium, all of the layers of embossing powders and then more Creative Medium.  I am so pleased with how it turned out!

So, have you played recently?

  2. Roni, I am happy to report that I am once again receiving your blog updates! Yippee! I am so glad that you had a chance to play in such a spectacular way! As you started listing each of the supplies that became part of your masterpiece, I had to chuckle thinking of your workspace and how it shrank during this fun process. I would love to know if you have come up with any short cuts in the clean-up process. If it was my desk, I think I would still be buried up to my neck. LOL. Another beauty...so much richer than the inspiration piece!!!
    Love Ya, Kathy
