Monoprinting with StazOn Studio Glaze

Today I wanted to share a fun twist on a familiar technique...monoprinting.  Monoprinting is simply applying a medium to a non-porous surface, adding a bit of water and squishing your paper into the mix.  It creates a different, unique and beautiful print each and every time!

Now I've shared this technique in the past using things like alcohol inks, paints, ink pad inkers and more.  Well today I wanted to share this technique using a fun and relatively new product from IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko... StazOn Studio Glaze.

Let's begin!

I started off by squirting on a couple different colors of the Studio Glaze - Midnight Blue & Blue Hawaii.

Then I added a bit of Silver (as an afterthought) and spritzed it with a couple squirts of water.  I used the tip of a paint brush to swirl the colors around a bit.

I smooshed the paper into the mix...

And here's what it looked like once I pulled the paper off the mat.

Now, don't wipe away the excess, you can use it to create additional prints - each one unique and beautiful in it's own right.  Above you can see several different prints and color combinations.

I die-cut the print, inked it with Delicata Silver ink and stamped the sentiment (ClubScrap.com) directly onto the print using StazOn Jet Black ink.

I made a few embellishments - these boots (ClubScrap.com) were "painted" with a mix of Cactus Green and Emerald City Studio Glaze.

I also stamped the umbrella (also ClubScrap.com) a couple times because I wanted to give it a bit of dimension.  Those were colored using Memento markers, cut and layered.

I didn't even try to cut out the umbrella handle - I stamped a 3rd umbrella this time directly on the card panel.  I then layered the colored pieces over this image and created a dimension umbrella.  The boots were then added over the umbrella.

Now you might be thinking what is the difference by using the Studio Glaze say instead of acrylic paints or other color mediums.  Well the translucent properties of the glaze allow you to see multiple colors layered over each other creating amazing depth with very little effort on your part.  The above close up of the monoprint shows this depth...

  3. Love your card and also that you could make many prints from one application of glaze. The variation of colors with only your three colors are amazing.

  4. I love this card! The depth of color is amazing. I am so glad to know that you did stamp directly on the card in order to avoid the hassle of cutting out the umbrella's handle. My cutting skills were beginning to feel inadequate! LOL
