Prayers for Indiana State Fair Disaster

Normally I don't post about events happening around the world because well....there are tons of blogs, news reports, radio stations, etc. etc. that bombard us all with sad events each day but I since this tragedy struck so close to home I feel compelled to share it with you and express my sadness.

I don't know if you all have read/seen/heard about the terrible accident that happened last night at the Indiana State Fair ( Indiana State Fair Tragedy)  or not but I hope you will join me in sending out thoughts and/or prayers for the families of those folks who were killed and to the many others injured in this tragic accident.

We had some very powerful storms roll through last evening and I never even gave the fair a thought since it was so far away (we're about 2 - 2.5 hrs. north). I was shocked to see this story pop up on CNN as dh was flipping through the channels last night.  It really hit home for me since we had just visited the fair only days ago.  It makes a person pause and think about how fragile life really is.

I had planned on sharing additional photos of our trip today but out of respect for all those effected I will share them at a later date.

Please keep all of those effected in your thoughts and give thanks for the well being of your family and yourself.  I know I sure am and I hope that you all are safe and well today, in the coming week and always.

  1. I heard it on the news driving home from work last night and thought of my cousin's kid who shows cattle there each year and I thought of you, too, since you had just been there and posted pictures. Prayers from Cali flying your way.

  2. My first thought when I heard this last night was "Oh no, Roni was just there yesterday." My prayers are with all those people and their families.

  3. Oh, no that is just awful. My prayers are definitely with those involved. We were in a similar situation about 8 years ago where the middle pole at a Christmas fair tent snapped in half in high winds, however fortunately they had already started to evacuate people from the tent and the canvas slowed the pole down, so no one was killed. Very scary though.

  7. It really is just terrible, but it's so amazing to see how quickly so many people jumped in to help out. I was in the drive thru at Panera when the wind blew through, and my car rocked back and forth enough that I thought it might get blown over. The weird thing was that it didn't start raining until about 15 minutes later. Sadly, I bet they would have had the grandstands evacuated before the rain hit. The wind just came too soon.

  9. I thought exactly as Diane did. It was a shocking sight on the news. One tv report even showed it in slow motion and I thought that was tasteless of them. It goes to show how life can be changed in a instant... live each moment to the fullest. My prayers do go out to all those who were killed and injured or who were there and witnessed the tragedy.

  10. Thoughts and prayers to all those involved, the people of Indiana and the performers, as I am sure you are all impacted in your hearts. It was eery because we had been to a concert at the WV State Fair on Sunday as well with our children and it just makes you think. Healing wishes for the injured and hugs to all.

  11. I saw this on the news within minutes after it happened! I immediately thought of you, as you & your family had just been there. If you hadn't talked about the Indiana State Fair or shown us some of the pics, this would have been just another terrible tragedy! However, because of you, I felt like it meant more to me. It may have been my "friend Roni" involved. Even knowing that you weren't there, it made me feel worse for those involved. It's a small world, you know! Your wonderful blog has made me feel a small part of that section of our world. My prayers go out to all involved!
