Foil Image Transfer Ideas & Give-A-Way!

Today I wanted to give you a couple ideas on how to use your image transfers. First I wanted to answer a question that was asked by a couple people... After you have completed the transfer the adhesive on the foil may still be sticky.  By rubbing a small coat of Glossy Accents over the image it will also take care of the sticky feeling.  Once the GA dries your image won't be the least bit sticky.

Someone else gave this technique a try with the aluminum heating tape that can be purchased at a hardware store and it worked as well.  You are of course limited by the size of the image you can transfer since the aluminum tape is 2" wide but it would still be a great alternative if you don't have the foil sheets.

Now on to the projects... you can mount your image directly onto a card or other project as I did on this card...

Here is a close up of the transfer....  This one is quite large ~ approx 3x4.5" and the detail you get is amazing.

Another really fun thing to do with this type of image transfer is to use them for a charm!!  Check this out...you could mount it behind a Fragment, Facets, Memory Glass, etc.   Just think of all the fun charms you could come up with!!

Now several people e-mailed asking where to find the foil...apparently it's not widely available in stores yet so I thought it would be fun to give some away!

I have a sheet of foil tape and an Alpha Stamp collage sheet sitting here waiting to be played with!

Foil Image Transfer 001

To be entered to win post a comment and tell me what you would like to use the foil for.
Maybe you want to use it for this image transfer, die-cut it, emboss it, paint on it, etc.

I have several more projects to share using this foil so if you thought you wouldn't / couldn't use it, you might be surprised at how versatile it really is!

You have until 7-1-11 to post a comment to be entered to win!

Good Luck Everyone!!

  5. I have not used the foil tape before, but would like to emboss through my cuttlebug, I have a nice flower and leaf folder. Then rub paint over to fill in the background, wiping the top clean, and them may be try some alcohol inks on the flowers and leaves that still show silver.

  22. Wow-how cool. I was so happy to learn how to use the metallic dauber paint as a transfer medium-this is much easier and much less messy. I would like to emboss some thick paper and then cut the Mini cabinet card with a Tim Holtz die and mount a tin tape transfered photo so it looks like a tin type.
Thanks for the chance to win.

  27. While I haven't used Rangers new foil, I have used something similar. I use embossing folders & plates, and set the embossed metal into a bezel & apply resin. Makes awesome jewelry pieces!

  28. i have some of the heating tape, but would love to try this product. i'd give the image transfer a go.. in my heritage album. i think it would really give some of the pictures a sense of the time they were taken.. i have some real old pictures but just copies, not original so to get the tintype look would be perfect.

  29. I've embossed with the metal tape and the results are very cool, so it would be great to have larger areas to work with. An embossed and inked sheet would be such a great decoration for the top of a box.

  30. I definitely would use the foil for your image transfer technique. I tried it on the foil hardware tape yesterday and it is so great looking. I have a photo of my mom when she was 7 years old that I would love to use it for with the foil.

  38. I love that Alphastamps collage sheet, so I think I would make some Christmas ornaments with gold frames with those mysterious angels inset in them. Love the part about covering with Glossy Accents to take the stickiness away...

  40. I just think it would be fun to try the foil tape as you've shown it used. Tranferring images and using them for an many different tings as I can comeup with! Love the memory glass idea too!

  41. I would try the image transfer technique with this sheet of foil from Ranger and the Alpha Stamp collage sheet! Thank you for the chance!

  42. I would use the foil tape with an image transfer and then imboss an image into the foil. I'd probably use something like spackle to fill the back of the embossing so it would retain the 3-dimensionality. I'm working on a memory journal of my recent trip to Turkey, so I have lots of imagery to work with.

Thank you for the image transfer tips.

  43. I have the perfect picture to transfer...my mother in about 1946 in a swimsuit on a boat. It would make a beautiful tin type.

  47. I purchased this product with the intention of embossing it to make embelishments for my scrapbook layouts and cards. I never dreamed of using it for image transfers, what a wonderful technique! Thank you, Roni, for another great idea; can't wait to try it!

  48. These are awesome! I have tons of old family photos electronically, and I would print them out and use this technique to give them a tin-type look, then use the embellishment on scrapbook quilts or other handmade items to sell at family reunions to make money for future family reunions.

  49. Great tutorial, Roni! I took a class with Tim years ago where we covered a wooden frame using the hardware tape. It was great, but you could see the lines where rows of tape overlapped. I'd love to make a small frame using a large sheet. I bet it would be awesome. I'd also like to try the image transfer technique on fragments.
Thanks for the opportunity to win some!
