Newsletter Spam ~ Martha Stewart & Cloth Paper Scissors!

I have to tell you I am really ticked.

Recently I signed up for two newsletters which I *thought* would be really neat.  Cloth Paper Scissors (the magazine) has a newsletter you can sign up for as does Martha Stewart ~ both of which are supposed to have "fun project ideas" in each e-mail.

I must say I'm more than disappointed by their newsletters....

Obviously one or both of these companies wasted no time in sharing/selling my e-mail addy because ever since I signed up for these things I have been getting a TON of Spam!!!!  I'm talkin' 60-100 a DAY.  Now luckily I have Gmail which (thankfully) has a very aggressive spam monitor so I only have to pluck 1-2 out of my inbox a day.  The rest are all sent to my spam folder which I do check before I delete because sometimes it sends my Etsy orders or other correspondence there by mistake.

AND the "Fun project ideas" have turned out to be mostly advertisements for each companies products.

Needless to say I am unsubscribing from both of these and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.  I would actually tell you to run the other way.  They are a waste of time and are more of an aggravation than what they are worth.

  1. Thanks for the heads up Roni! I actually had to change my e-mail addy after signing up for some newsletters a couple years ago. It doesn't take those people long to sell your addy!

  2. Thank you for the warning!! It doesn't take long for your addy to be sold to someone else with spam. I hate when that happens.

  3. Thanks for the info. Its good to know, lord knows I get enough garbage in my email. I really don't need any more.

  4. Thanks so much for that info Roni! I absolutely hate having to deal with spam and won't be looking to sign up for either one of these. Hope you have a wonderful week.

  5. Thanks for the heads up on these two Newsletters Roni.
Speaking of ads, I hate even buying magazines anymore because most of what you pay for are ads and there might be one or two projects you actually would like to try.
I won't bother looking to subscribe to either of these.
    Have an inky kinda day.

  7. Nothing ticks me off faster than a company that sells my info. I rarely give out my email address for the very reason you are posting about!

  8. I'm also going to unsubscribe to the Cloth Paper Scissors newsletter. They always have great titles like "10 ways to reignite your creativity" then it's about a video they're selling. I've learned nothing useful from their newsletter.

  9. Thanks for that Roni. I have to say though, at the moment I subscribe to Cloth Paper Scissors and haven't noticed an increase in spam, so that may be more down to the Martha Stewart one - but I will be removing myself from the CLoth Paper Scissors list as they seem to send out newsletters every other day, sometimes every day and none of them are any good, only advertising stuff they sell or links to subscribe to their mag; completely not what they advertise the newsletter to be.

  10. Thanks for the heads-up! I know what you mean about the lack of fun projects, too. That's one thing I love! about you and your blog. Your motivation is not merchandise. And no, I don't get upset when you mention your stamps. I really appreciate your blog!

  11. Thanks for the heads up. It's sad when such "great" name companies treat customers so dirty.

  12. I used to get the Martha Stewart newsletter and like you thought it was a waste of my time. I like to find sites that offer inspiration and fun projects....like yours!! Thanks for the info...I appreciate it!

  13. Oh, do I ever know what you mean! It's soooo irritating! Now that most telemarketers can't reach people by phone and don't want to spend money on postage, they've decided that email is the way to go. Grrrrrr.

  14. I signed up for the MS one and I haven't got slammed with spam. People tend to not read the privacy policy when signing up though. They may share with affiliates and subsidiaries, etc. It's up to the individual to be aware when they sign up.
However, I think they tend to show what is being posted on the website. I guess it's really just good for a 'heads up' if you don't want to go check the site all the time.

  15. I run in the opposite direction from ANYTHING that is the MS brand. Several years ago I scrimped and saved to buy two sets of her dishes (couldn't find my colors in anything else affordable). They said "microwave safe". They WERE NOT microwave safe. They got dangerously hot in the microwave. And the chipped if you barely bumped them on something. Awful quality!! My daughter's roommate had a MS bedspread. Unfortunately, my daughter's Maltese "tinkled" in the bedspread. My daughter followed the instructions for washing and drying. It came all apart!! My daughter had to buy the roomy a new bedspread. Needless to say, I don't recommend her products to anyone.

  16. Ugg I signed up for Cloth Paper Scissors too and thankfully not outside spam from anyone but they send a boatload of emails....I deleted them because they weren't sending ideas they just kept advertising stuff!!!
