Happy Harvest - November Get Inked Stamp Give-A-Way!

Can you believe it's November already?!?!

Seems like the year has just flown by.  I know they say that's a sign of old age but I'm tellin you I just do not know where the time has gone.  Seems like I'm so busy living each day I forget to stop and take a moment to reflect.

Well anyway, it's time for another new Get Inked Kit at Queen Kat Designs! This month I designed the stamps with a bit of vintage harvest in mind...

The stamp set contains a sunflower, wheat sheaf and a fun vintage harvest flourish.  I've also included a few nice sentiments ~ Give Thanks, Happy Harvest and Autumn which work equally well for cards and scrapbooks.  Below are the individual projects I created for this months kit using the kit goodies ~ Blackberry Cat's Eye ink pad, Platinum Stickles Glitter Glue and Aged Mahogany Distressed Stickles.  NOTE: each of these projects are included in the project sheet which includes supply lists as well as complete instructions.

Now, I though I thought I'd answer a question I get frequently.... I have been asked how I go about creating the projects I design for each kit... or why most of the projects I make for a particular kit have the same colors/look.

When designing projects for each kit I try to stick mainly to the kit supplies ~ If I use extra items on a project I try to keep them on the generic side for example - plain black inks, simple embellishments - ribbon, brads, etc and plain cardstock.   I virtually never use pattern paper but instead try to create my own using the inks, stamps supplied and some creative techniques. I do this so the projects and techniques can be easily replicated without having to go out and purchase lots of extras.  Yes, I do use die-cuts or border punches from time to time but for the most part I try to stick with basic shapes that can be easily hand cut.

Usually the Get Inked Kits contain one main ink color included in the kit which is what I use on each project.  Also I never use any additional stamps to create the kit projects...only what is included in the kit. This way you have everything you need right there on the sheet of stamps current to the month.  I also try to incorporate the extras into each card ~ for example this month it was a bottle of Stickles and Distress Stickles.  You will see that on each project all three have been incorporated in some form or fashion.

I know this sounds a bit crazy to some people because after all selling more goodies is what alot of kits try to get you to do.  Personally I don't like it when I have to supplement kits with 10.00, 20.00 or more in "extras" just to get my projects to even begin to look like some of these kit "projects" out there.   I have a real pet peeve about this type of marketing ploy.  To me this is a rip-off...if you can't make it with the kit contents plus a few basic supplies then it shouldn't be included in the project sheet. 

It takes a bit more creativity to use a limited number of stamps/supplies to create these projects each month but it's worth it to me.  I like to know that even if you only ever purchase one kit you will be assured you can create the same exact projects included on the project sheet without having to break the bank.

I hope this helps you understand why these kit projects have similar looks and don't look quite like the other guys.
