What Size Cards Do You Make? (& Card Give-A-Way!!)

As I was getting my cards around for the sale I had a few weeks ago I realized I like BIG cards... so much so I had to find some pretty big envelopes to fit them.  Some I had to create my own envelopes because they were so honkin' big!!

That got me to thinkin' about what size cards other crafters make and why.

To be honest ~ I normally don't start out with a card size in mind...I just start stamping and layering cardstock, pattern paper and goodies.  When I am finished piling it on then I usually add it to a cardstock base and call it done.  For the most part my cards range from 5x7 and up.

I must say I was quite surprised by the poll numbers...

Turns out most people make their cards 4.25" x 5.5" as you can see below ~ 70%!!!

A2 - 4.25" x 5.5" 68 (70%)

A6 - 4.6" x 6.25" 12 (12%)

A7 - 5" x 7" 13 (13%)

A8 - 5.5" x 8.25 2 (2%)

A10 - 5.75" x 9.25" 4 (4%)

Square - 5" x 5" 7 (7%)

Square - 6" x 6" 8 (8%)

other 10 (10%)

  2. I'm hoping to squeeze a little card making in today. It is going to be a challenge between birthday parties and "adventures" and such. I'm not surprised that most people make A2's but I must say I'm liking 5 x 7's more and more.

  6. Hi Roni -

Well today I'll be running out to visit my 103 year old grandmother at the nursing home and spend some time with her. Then I'll hit the supermarket and Michael's. My plan is then to spend a little time in my studio to start coming up with a Christmas card design for this year. I have to send out about 70, so I want something that can be replicated, but yet look nice. I know myself though, I'll probably sit and make birthday cards for two of my brothers, each of whom have a birthday this month, a day apart. Masculine cards are so hard to come up with so wish me luck - LOL! As for the size of the cards, it usually depends on the cardstock I have at hand.

  7. Today is my daughter-in-law's birthday, so I am planning to make her a card. :) Thank you for the giveaway opportunity. I'm a big fan of your work and your book. I got your book at the library, read it from cover to cover and then had to buy it for myself. So many fabulous ideas. I'll be posting some projects on my own blog in the next few weeks that were inspired by your book, and I'll be sure to credit you and let you know.

  13. Most of my cards are A2 as well. It's easier to cut the paper in half than to really think about size :) I have already made two and a half cards today with a couple more in progress.

  15. All my cards are very large as I do not like small cards unless they are for a not so important purpose. Because of this I have to make custom sized envelopes for every card, which I do not mind as I can match the theme up with the card.

  18. I actually match my card size to whatever size envelope I choose!! If I'm making my daughter or granddaughters cards, I make them big (5x7 or larger) because I REALLY want them to be happy! When I'm making holiday cards, I usually stick to A2 size..it's easier! I actually started on my Christmas cards Saturday..(whoohoo)!! But I ended up making Halloween cards for my granddaughters..size?..HUGE..6" x 11" and they turned out GREAT! Thanks Roni, for all your inspiration and this blog..which I LOVE!

  19. I made 4 cards on WCMD and so did my girlfriends. We had a blast. I use all sizes but smaller is just a little easier.

  20. I did make a card, and it was an A2 size. Loved seeing your sketches tonight, but it was too late for the card making day!
