Dyed Rayon "Wrinkly" Ribbon

I can't believe how many people won't share how they dye the wrinkly rayon (seam binding) ribbon that is so popular right now. It's just crazy...(rolling eyes) it's not like it's a trade secret or something.

It's really easy after you find the rayon seam binding... I had a difficult time locating some because we don't have any nifty stores that carry it in our area. I could find the non-rayon type but no rayon.

Soooo, in come e-bay to the rescue!

I bought a whole 100yd roll of it so I wouldn't have to worry about finding it again for a while ;)

Dyed Rayon Wrinkly Ribbon

Instructions:

(Distress Ink Style)

1. Cut off desired length of ribbon.

2. Pounce desired color of Distress Ink on the non-stick craft mat.

3. Spritz the ink with a bit of water...

4. Wad up the ribbon and dab it in the ink moving it around until the ribbon is covered in ink.

Here is what it will look like at this point...not all of the ribbon has been inked which lots of people like. You can use the ribbon as is or continue.

5. If you want an all over dye job, squirt the ribbon with a bit of water and scrunch it around. The ink will migrate and color the entire ribbon at this point.

6. To ensure your ribbon is wrinkly, scrunch it up while it's still wet. You can let it dry naturally or use a heat gun to dry it.

Keep in mind the color will lighten as it dries.

Here is what the ribbon looks like at this point... You can use it as is or continue.

Here is a little project I'm working on that has a bit of the ribbon dyed up to this point.

7. To add a bit more depth to the ribbon I like to scrunch it back up after it's dry and rub my ink pad directly on the dyed ribbon. Move the ribbon around a couple times to ensure even coverage.

And here is what it looks like now....

Easy as that!

If you'd like multi colored ribbon you can repeat steps 2-4 a couple times adding a different color each time. Be sure to let your ribbon dry between colors so they don't get muddy.

You can also use different types of inks to dye the ribbon as well. I find that Adirondack Dye Inks to yield VERY intense colors. Glimmer Mists work as well but the "glimmer" part doesn't show up as well as it does on paper. I have also used regular dye inks other than Distress Inks and they work super too :) So, go ahead...use what you have! It's all good!!
