4th of July Star Burst Decoration

Here is a fun, quick and easy hand crafted dimensional holiday decoration for the 4th of July.

The great thing about this project is by simply changing the paper color and embellishments you could use it for virtually any occasion!

Supplies:

(2) 8.5x11" sheets each of Blue, Red, White cardstock

Double Stick Tape

Chipboard

Glass Glitter

Glue

Ribbon (optional)

Wire

Instructions:

1. Begin by creating the glass glitter star. Free-hand draw a star on a piece of heavy chipboard. It doesn't have to be perfect...

2. Cover the entire star with a thick glue...

and cover with glass glitter. Set the star aside to dry.

3. Trim all of the cardstock into 4x5" pieces. You should end up with 24 individual rectangles.

4. Place a strip of double stick tape along one 5" side of each piece of cardstock.

5. To create each cone remove the liner from the double stick tape, pick up the bottom corner on the opposite 5" and roll it towards the 5" side that has the double stick tape. Continue rolling the cardstock until you have created the cone. The double stick tape will secure the finished cone as you roll.

6. Repeat with the remaining 23 pieces of cardstock. It really doesn't take as long as it sounds. You get into a rhythm and it goes quickly.

7. Cut an 8-10" circle from chipboard. This will be the base for your star burst. Draw a smaller circle in the center. This is going to be your placement guide when you start attaching the cones to your circle.

8. Apply a layer of glue or double stick tape to the chipboard base. Begin affixing each cone to the base in desired pattern.

Here is how mine turned out....

Now you can finish off your star burst with a variety of elements...I chose to fan fold a wide blue sheer ribbon but you could use crepe paper, additional cardstock or chipboard, etc. Add the star to the center and wire to the back for hanging then you're all set!
