Tim Holtz Distress Inks - New vs. Old

Actually, not really a "vs." type of thing....

more like old compared to new.

So, I inked & stamped a bunch of tags using the old colors and the new colors just to show how varied the colors are. There are a couple new colors that I just L*O*V*E and some that are just o.k....very close to old colors but maybe after I use them a bit I'll like them more.

Anyway, here we goooooo.....

Tim Holtz Distress Ink

New vs Old

Color Comparison

(going at this the old ROYGBIV style)

(New colors have a blue splat on them.)

Reds

New = Spun Sugar, Victorian Velvet & Barn Door

Old = Tattered Rose, Worn Lipstick, Fired Brick & Aged Mahogany

New = Rusty Hinge

Old = Dried Marigold & Spiced Marmalade

Yellow

New = Wild Honey

(I actually debated about adding this to the orange family as it is very close to orange but it fits well here as well. It's a nice compliment to the two original colors of yellow.)

Old = Scattered Straw & Mustard Seed

Green

New = Bundled Sage, Crushed Olive & Forest Moss

Old = Shabby Shutters, Peeled Paint & Pine Needles

Neutral

New = Pumice Stone

So, what do you think of the new colors vs. the old?

Any new favorites?

I have 3 new favorites which I think are must haves....

Blue Sapphire

(OMG ~ simply awesome color of blue)

Crushed Olive

(isn't that such an interesting color...lots of potential)

and

Barn Door

(yes, believe it or not a red must have color ;) LOL!!)

The colors I wasn't sure about are....

Victorian Velvet, Tumbled Glass & Stormy Sky

They are all very similar to another color in the same group...I can just about make those colors using the Ink Blending Tool and more/less layers of ink.

Be sure to let us know what you think!

Have a great day!!

  3. Oh Heck Roni -

    I think I like them all - LOL! But I really like the tags you made up. I think I may do something like that so I have a visual of the colors when I'm working on something. You know, a little swatch sample!

  9. Reason for muliple photos of some of the color groups ~ I took one large pic of the colors so you could see them all together and the other photos are larger images so you could get a closer look at each tag. If you click on the image to take you to Flickr you can then click on the larger or original image and it will blow it up even bigger for a closer look.

  19. Thank you so much for displaying these so well! I've never seen them all laid out like that. I think all of the new colors have perfectly filled in all the 'gaps' of Distress color shades. I am very excited about the blues, pinks, greens...actually I am very excited about everything! There is not one that I don't like.

  22. Thanks so much for showing us all the new colors against the old! I know that the new colors won't be coming to my local Michaels for some time.
    For some reason, Pumice Stone is just calling to me! I love it's cool neutral tone. Also the Chipped Sapphire and Rusty Hinge! Love that deep, rich orange of the Rusty Hinge. I used to shy away from orange and yellow but am loving it lately!

  23. I love all the new colors, but if I were to chose the ones that stand out to me.....they would be Rusty Hinge,Wild Honey,Forest Moss, Chipped Sapphire, and Barn Door. The comparison tags was a wonderful idea in helping to determine what to purchase next. Looking forward to the Akron show. Look for the grey-haired lady with the bow in her hair!
