CD Calendar - May - Rock Candy

Oh I am so excited about today's product....Rock Candy! I love the finished look you get when using the RC. Many people have asked various questions about RC ~ mainly what is the difference between Rock Candy and Crackle Accents. Back in November I did a side by side comparison of the two - Tim Holtz Rock Candy vs. Inkssentials Crackle Accents where I talked about the differences in each product. I really like using the Rock Candy mainly because it's so much quicker to use than Crackle Accents. Instant gratification ;)

One of the cool things about Rock Candy is you can use it over stamped images, pattern papers, ephemera, collage images, etc. I inked and stamped May's page but you could substitute various pattern papers if you are short on time.

Supplies:

Chipboard

Rock Candy

Distress Ink

Ink Blending Tool

Rubber Stamps (Darkroom Door, Judikins)

Instructions:

1. Began by applying Distress Ink to the chipboard. (or if you are short on time simply use pattern paper.)

2. Stamp desired images on the inked cardstock. I used a fern from Judikins & flowers from Darkroom Door.

3. Apply a coat of Rock Candy to the entire work. Remember to vary the amount of Rock Candy you apply to different areas of the project. This will give you a greater variety of crackle pattern to the finished image.

4. Let the image dry naturally or speed drying using a heat tool.

5. When dry, for added accent apply a bit of Distress Ink over the crackles. I added extra over the blue sky area.

6. Embellish as desired and add to your CD!

  4. Hi Roni -

How are all the new babies at your place doing? Give them all hugs from me.
I love this calendar page. I've only used the rock candy once, just a little on a tag and I liked the way it came out. It really looks fabulous though the way you did it on the calendar page. I love the effect. I'll have to play more with this. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!

  5. I don't have any rock candy, yet. I added some crackle by using some ultra thick embossing enamel. Its not the same but it's my day off and the snow gives me an excuse to play all day. I caught up on my calendar and I did the triple tissue technique from all things
Tim. I uploaded pictures on my blog. Tnaks Roni I'm having a blast making my calendar.

  6. I love the rock candy! I've tried regular crackle paint, but this is so much nicer and easier to use. Checking out Darkroom Doors now...=D
