Halloween Block Collage

Hey all! I told you last week I had a couple more goodies to share with you using the wood blocks left over from un-mounting wood mounted rubber stamps. I didn't forget, just seems like there have been so many things I wanted to share but I've finally got them for you.

Today I wanted to share the Halloween Block Collage I made. I am so tickled with how it turned out ~ far better than I expected but I think that's because of the way cool paint and glass glitter I used :) There's also a bit of the Distress Stickles tossed in for good measure ;)

One thing I really love about this box is it recycles one of those wooden Prima boxes! I just popped the divider out (don't throw it away, there are loads of cool things you can do with it!), added some paint and it was ready to use! The lid is PERFECT for adding that extra little something as you'll see ;)

No step by steps photos on this as it implements the basics of applying an image to the blocks that I shared in my post Wood Block Art. If you didn't catch it you can refer back to it with that link.

Just a note about real glass glitter... You need to be VERY careful when working with glass glitter. Since it's made from real shards of colored glass it is VERY sharp and it WILL cut you if you're not very careful with it. I guarantee once you get a piece of this stuff embedded in your skin you won't forget the next time! It hurts ~ and yes, I do speak from experience (I need that little yahoo guy who slaps his forehead...LOL!!)! Use gloves or be very careful cleaning up and work over a box of some sort...it will help catch any stray glitter not so much to save the glitter but your feet the next time you walk through barefoot.

Supplies:

Prima Wood box with lid or Shadowbox

Wood Blocks

Adirondack Acrylic Dabber Paint - Pitch Black

Stewart Gill Byzantia Acanthus Paint (green) - Hannah Grey

Black Glass Glitter - The German Store

Computer Generated Image

Stickles - Grape & Lime Green - Ranger

Archival Ink - Jet Black - Ranger

Distress Stickles - Spiced Marmalade - Ranger

Flourish Stamps - Fancy Pants

Rusty Metal Pumpkins - unknown

Instructions:

1. Remove the acrylic lid and the dividers from the wooden box. Paint the entire box, inside & out with the Adirondack Acrylic Dabber Paint. Let dry.

2. Dry brush the Stewart Gill Paint to the base of the box floor. This is going to be the background for your block collage. Let dry.

3. Attach the Halloween image to the blocks as shown in the post - Wood Block Art.

4. Once the blocks have dried, apply Black Glass Glitter to any part of the block where the block extends further than the image...

5. Apply Distress Stickles to the pumpkins in the image and also to the two rusty metal pumpkins. (Don't you just love how the Distress Stickles looks like mica flakes!!! I sure do :) Feeds my Mica addiction - LOL!!!)

6. Mount the wood blocks at varying heights using pieces of stacked chipboard, dominoes, or whatever you have on hand. You can't really tell from the photos but there are 2 of the blocks mounted directly to the back of the box and 3 which are mounted at various heights. It really adds so much in person.

7. Mount the pumpkins to the bottom of the block collage. I stacked black foam to raise it to the right height.

8. Brush desired liquid adhesive along the bottom and left side ~ sprinkle with Black Glass Glitter - Let dry. Once dry, shake off excess glitter.

9. Stamp flourishes on what would be the inside of the acrylic lid using Archival Ink. Let dry.

10. Embellish the stamped flourishes with Purple & Green Stickles Glitter Glue.

Once everything has dried ~ you're done!!

So there you go...it's a bit time consuming waiting for everything to dry at various stages but man it looks so cool in person! I've got a couple more of those boxes and I think I'm going to try something Christmas-y with it at some point...they are just too much fun to alter :) Shadow boxes would give a similar effect ~ you just wouldn't be able to remove the glass pane like you can the acrylic lid.

Tomorrow is 4 for 1 Friday and I'll be using a cool image from Madjak Stamps! I haven't decided which one because they are all very cool so you'll just have to stop in and check it out ;)

Till then friends...sending you Inky Hugs!
