Perfect Pearls & Dabber Technique

Today I want to share with you a fun technique that incorporates Perfect Pearls and Dabber Acrylic Paints in a whole new way! I like to call it "Perfect Paints". Yeah, I know, I'm not very good at coming up really fun and creative names but it works - LOL!!!

For this particular project I also incorporated Fragments by Tim Holtz and Beadazzles.

Supplies:

Adirondack Acrylic Dabber (your choice of color) - Ranger
Perfect Pearls - Ranger
Perfect Pearls Large Brush - Ranger
Beadazzles - Ranger
Glossy Accents - Ranger
Archival Jet Black Ink - Ranger
Fragments - Tim Holtz Advantus
Double Stick Tape (magic tape, red line tape, etc.)
Candy Tin, washed & dried
Vintage Image
E-6000
Alpha Rubber Stamps, Rub-ons or Computer Generated words

Instructions:

1. Sand the tin. By doing so, this will give the paint something to adhere to on the slick metal surface.

2. Working in small sections, paint the tin with the Dabber. DO NOT let the paint dry!! You must preform this next step quickly.

3. Immediately, using the large Perfect Pearls brush pick up a large amount of Perfect Pearls. Dab it over the still wet paint. You will need to pick up additional Perfect Pearls pigment powder often while covering the wet paint.

4. Continue adding pigment powders until that section of paint has been completely covered.

5. Paint your next section and cover with Perfect Pearl pigment powders.
6. Once the lid and sides have been covered in Perfect Pearls either set aside to dry or speed drying using your heat gun. CAUTION: BE VERY CAREFUL if you use the heat tool. The tin will get VERY hot and may burn you!

7. Once the lid has dried, continue using the same process to color the bottom section of the tin as shown. Set aside to dry.
8. Once the tin has completely dried, take a clean brush and dust off any pigment powder that is not adhered to the paint.
You can now see the AWESOME texture this technique gives the metal. By using various color combinations of acrylic paint and Perfect Pearls your possibilities are endless! You could instantly add a layer of "Rust" to your project simply by using Espresso Dabbers with Rust Perfect Pearls!!! You don't have to cover all of the paint either....maybe you want the old world look of aged copper....try using the Copper Dabber and a bit of the Green Patina Perfect Pearls!

9. It's time to work on some "Fragment" embellishments. This is done in the same fashion as previously shown here. Simply apply a small amount of Glossy Accents to the chosen Fragment piece and apply it to desired photo. I also made 2 smaller Fragment pieces adhering them to pattern paper. Let dry & cut away excess paper.

10. Time to embellish the large photo Fragment. Apply the double sided tape to the edge of the Fragment. Dip the tape into Beadazzles coating all four sides.

11. Rub-ons were added to the two smaller Fragment pieces.

12. All three Fragment embellishments were attached to the lid of the tin using E-6000. Set aside to cure.
You're now ready to give this little tin to your Valentine's Day Sweetheart!
Fill it with little conversation hearts, chocolates or other little surprise you might have to offer :) I'm sure it will bring a smile to their face!

Have you altered anything today???? If your answer is no, why don't you give this little tin a try...your sweetie will thank you for it ;)

  4. Thanks!

Shannon, it feels a bit like soft sand paper - LOL!! I know that doesn't make much sense but it's not scratchy like sand paper but it's got the same texture.

    You're welcome Holly :)
