Color Changes Everything!

Yes, color really does change everything!! Colors evoke so many different feelings in each of us. They may bring to mind a memory of a warm summers day, a favorite sweater, or maybe even feelings of joy and happiness.

I put this theory to the test on a set of cards I made recently. I used the exact same card lay-out and the same rubber stamps to create each one. I simply changed the color I used on each of the cards and the embellishements used as accents.

You can judge for yourself how changing the color scheme changed the whole feel of the card...in addition, I have also included a list of colors and what feelings/emotions they evoke.

Red = Excitement, energy, passion, desire, speed, strength, power, heat, love, aggression, danger, fire, blood, war, violence, aggression, all things intense and passionate.

(Ranger Adirondack Cranberry)

Orange = Energy, balance, warmth, enthusiasm, vibrant, expansive, flamboyant, demanding of attention.

(Ranger Adirondack Terra Cotta)

Yellow = Joy, happiness, optimism, idealism, imagination, hope, sunshine, summer, gold, philosophy, dishonesty, cowardice, betrayal, jealousy, covetousness, deceit, illness, hazard.

(Ranger Adirondack Butterscotch)

Green = Nature, environment, healthy, good luck, renewal, youth, vigor, spring, generosity, fertility, jealousy, inexperience, envy, misfortune.

(Ranger Adirondack Meadow)

Blue = Peace, tranquility, calm, stability, harmony, unity, trust, truth, confidence, conservatism, security, cleanliness, order, loyalty, sky, water, cold, technology, depression, appetite suppressant.

(Ranger Adirondack Denim)

Purple = Royalty, spirituality, nobility, spirituality, ceremony, mysterious, transformation, wisdom, enlightenment, cruelty, arrogance, mourning.

(Ranger Adirondack Wild Plum)

Brown = Earth, hearth, home, outdoors, reliability, comfort, endurance, stability, simplicity, and comfort.

(Ranger Adirondack Espresso)

Black = Power, sexuality, sophistication, formality, elegance, wealth, mystery, fear, evil, anonymity, unhappiness, depth, style, evil, sadness, remorse, anger, underground, good technical color, mourning, death (Western cultures).

(Ranger Adirondack Pitch Black)

Grey = Security, reliability, intelligence, staid, modesty, dignity, maturity, solid, conservative, practical, old age, sadness, boring.

White = Reverence, purity, simplicity, cleanliness, peace, humility, precision, innocence, youth, birth, winter, snow, good, sterility, marriage (Western cultures), death (Eastern cultures), cold, clinical, sterile.

Hopefully this inspires you to test this theory for yourself!!
Happy Stamping!!

  1. Wow! color really does make a difference. I seem to be drawn to the Meadow (green) color the most. I just love the warmth of it. Thanks for sharing this theory with us. Now I'll have to try it myself. :)

  3. Love this! I am making Christmas thank you's right now, and doing that to use up my stash of Christmas-color paper, but after that, I think I will try this out! Love all the colors. :-) Maybe yellow, orange, red, and black the best. :-)

  4. I'm with Nanette - what a difference the color makes. I personally liked the yellow/buttersctoch for some reason. I'm normally not drawn to that color either, hmmmm? Wonder what that means -LOL

  5. Maybe Tammy is drawn to the yellow/butterscotch one because she's needing a little warm weather and sunshine right about now!! I'm torn between the blue and the black!! On the other hand, I kinda like the green and the red too!! Color has so much power to evoke emotions...love it!
