Seasonal Distress Inks - Winter 2011

Hi Everyone!

Well I'm sure most of you have heard that the newest set of LE Distress Inks has been reveled.   This set consists of Festive Berries (a cherry red); Evergreen Bough (a medium sea foam green) and Iced Spruce (somewhere between a light slate grey  and a light steel blue).

And here is where they fit into the existing Distress Ink color families...

Festive Berries....

Evergreen Bough....

and

Iced Spruce....

I placed it at the back of the Blue family because IMO it really doesn't fit in well with this group of colors.

In my own mind/eye I think that Weathered Wood, Iced Spruce and Pumice Stone could actually be broken off into a separate Grey color family all their own...

But that's just my opinion.

I think each color can be used for a variety of images but not necessarily for the Christmas season. I'm thinkin the green would be perfect for sea/ocean related projects as well as the Iced Spruce. As I mentioned above I think the Iced Spruce on it's own would make some interesting contrasts with the other two grey tone inks allowing you to achieve quite a bit of depth. The Festive Berries will make a great addition to not only Christmas but Spring and Summer projects as well (think tulips, cherries, watermelon, etc)

So what do you think of the new colors?

Would you like to win a set of these new inks for yourself? Just post your thoughts on this set to be entered for a chance to win.

You'll have until 11-19-11 to post.

Good Luck!

  2. Oh, this is great, Roni, thanks so much for the comparison. I've been on the fence about these colors, but I like the suggestions you've made for the red being a spring/summer color - that makes so much more sense to me than Christmas! As far as that iced spruce... maybe it's just my monitor, but I've been thinking all along it's more in the greenish grays than the bluish grays the way Tim shows them. And yes, you have a nice set of "River Rocks" set up with the three "grays." I also agree with you on the evergreen - more "Atlantic Ocean" than "Christmas", LOL! Love this series that you do with all the new DIs - very helpful indeed!

  9. I like the new colors, but to me iced spruce looks green! Mind you I haven't seen it in person. I love how you made the tags, something I must do, especially to take with me when I go to buy more colors! I can never remember what I don't have yet.

  10. I think these colours are better than the autumn! I thought I liked the iced spruce most but after seeing them a bit more Evergreen bough has gone up to number one!
Thanks for the chance to win a set!

  11. That is a nice way of showing the colours, alongside the colour families. I'm with other people, had thought I liked Iced Spruce best, but having seen them here may prefer Evergreen Spruce.

  12. Thanks for sharing the colour samples. I love the brightness of 'festive berries' and 'evergreen bough' seems very fitting for Christmas cards. I never use greyish colours (but maybe I should!) so I don't know what to think of the iced spruce. Thanks for giving us the chance to win!

I agree with you that they are not just for christmas, Evergreen Bough would be my favorite, I wouldn't mind if Ranger added this color to the colors permanently available!

  17. Festive Berry is my favourite. In all the websites I have saw the Iced Spruce it really appears more green than blue. Your colour comparison is much appreciated.

  18. I love the new colors, and I really like the tags you have done to show the different colors - what a great idea. Thanks for the chance to win these!

  19. I particularly like the Iced Spruce, not at all sure why that one tickles my fancy but it does :)

Thanks for showing the colours the way you have, I almost never use my distress pads for stamping - only for applying colour - and yet they look great stamped out the way you've shown them. I really must change my ideas.

  21. Hi Roni -

I think the Iced Spruce has more of a grey tone to it. In fact, when looking at it on my monitor, it seems to be grey with a touch of green. I agree, it does not seem to go with the blues. I think its my favorite color of the three. And thanks again for showing us the camparisons.

  22. I love how you ink a tag then put them side by side for reference. I've always been very happy with the fired brick on my Christmas cards, but this red looks really yummy.

I'm not so impressed with the other two colors....but to win anything t!m is great. Besides, you never know when that color will actually be needed.

  23. I really like the colors and think they make good Winter colors. Especially when you think about using them with Tim's Christmas stamps. I don't think they are all that different from the colors he has already though, not like the Fall set that was clearly new. Would still love to have them if my darn Michaels store would bring them in. They never carry enough of Tim's line for my liking!

  37. Thanks for showing these inks this way Roni -- very helpful. I can see using the Festive Berries for Christmas and really like the deep shade. As for the Iced spruce and Evergreen Bough -- they don't really strike me as Christmasy but could see them for winter scenes or throughout the year.

  38. I love your comparison charts and tags. My favourite colour is the Iced Spruce,I believe this colour will add a lot of depth to any project thats worked on, but I am really liking the Evergreen Bough;).All three of these colours are not just limited to Christmas and I hope one day that Tim does release re-inkers for these new seasonal colours.

  55. I just read about these new inks yesterday on another blog. Boy was I surprised when I saw you are giving them away. How awesome is that.

I have to agree that the iced spruce is a gray green, and more gray than green. I like how you paired all of these so we can actually see all the colors. I only have one DI, so it was fun to see all the ones I still need.

  56. Had to have the autumn set, and now I gotta get this one too! Love the new colors! Your color samples are really helpful. Thanks for doing that!

  59. Love these seasonal colors but, I'll be honest. I wasn't too excited about the prices of these Distress pads, considering you can't order re-inkers for them. Although I do get the point that they are only going to be released at certain times of the year, it just seems that Ranger could have made it a little more affordable. Once the ink has been used up, the pad is pretty much trash. It's the first time I ever felt like Ranger was doing a bit of price gauging because they knew crafters would go nuts and buy them anyway. But, the colors are awesome!!
