CD Calendar - September - Distress Embossing Powders - Mixed Up Powders!

Hey guys!

I figured out that I had two July titles on my posts last night. Yesterday was actually August's page in all ways except the title. We're still on track, so no worries ;)

Today's page is made using Distress Embossing Powders. I know many people have been worried about trying/using this particular type of embossing powder because it is so different from ordinary embossing powders. The biggest complaint I hear is that people can't tell when it's been heated long enough. My reply...you can't over heat it so just keep going! After you've played with it a bit you will be able to see a slight change in the colored particles of the powder...it has a slight color and texture change but you have to really pay attention to see this change. You'll get the hang of it ~ just takes a bit of practice :)

Distress Embossing Powders - Mixed Up Powders!

cd calendar - Sept 001

Supplies:

Distress Embossing Powders

Embossing Ink

Heat It Craft Tool

Cardstock

Rubber Stamps

(optional) Ink Blending Tool

(optional) Distress Ink

Embellishments

Instructions:

1. Stamp the image using Embossing Ink.

2. Shake up each jar of embossing powder to mix the release crystals and powder. Using your fingers, add pinches of various colors of Distress Embossing Powders to different areas of the image. This is really fun because you can mix and match as much as you like. Since I'm working on an autumn page I used Dried Marigold, Spiced Marmalade, Fired Brick, Peeled Paint, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Scattered Straw.

3. Shake off excess powder. You can save this powder and put it into a seperate container and use as a potpourri mix.

4. Heat...and heat some more! As I mentioned before if you pay close attention you will see a slight color and texture change but if you can't see it just keep heating. Test it by rubbing your finger over a small area to see if it rubs off...if it does, continue heating.

5. VERY IMPORTANT - Let the powders cool.....You will rub the warm powders off and burn the heck out of your fingers. Count to 100 or go get a drink of Diet Coke or grab one of those yummy Simply Caramel bars (that was for Cher and her darn diet - tee hee hee).

6. Once the powder has cooled, rub off the release crystals. cd calendar - Sept 009

This will give you an awesome distressed image.

7. (optional) Now you could use the image as possible or you could apply a layer of Distress Ink over to add a bit of zip.
